Nonprofit Product Pricing I’d Like to See
I think it would be pretty cool if the pricing of various nonprofit technology products could be tied to the “good behavior” of the organization, in the sense that doing what is in their best interests in the long term is also in the best interests of the vendor, and should be rewarded.
For example, an organization signs up for a year of licenses. Together with the vendor, they set some goals for that year:
- Upgrade to the current version of the software
- De-duplicate contacts.
- Work through a real integration with QuickBooks, rather than trading spreadsheets.
If they accomplish all of these goals, perhaps 25% of their license fees would be refunded. Or, maybe the carrot would be a free two day training seminar on some advanced features. Why would vendors want to do this? My theory – unproven – is that organizations that do a good job taking care of their tools are ultimately far less expensive for the vendor to service. The more an organization dedicates themselves and their resources to “doing it the right way” the less likely they are to call their account rep with fires that need to be put out.
Would this work? Has anybody tried it?
